Ellora Caves – Hindu, Jain & Buddhist Architecture
Ellora Caves are located at a distance of 30 kilometers from the city of Aurangabad in the Indian state of Maharashtra. These 34 caves are a World Heritage Site and form the pinnacle of excellence in the Indian rock-cut architecture.
These caves have been vertically cut from the rocks and were built between the 5th and the 10th centuries. The whole structure houses monuments belonging to the Hindu, Buddhist and Jain thought. The caves are one of the finest examples of the religious harmony prevalent in that era.
The temple complex in Ellora is maintained by the Archeological Survey of India. Ellora is also famous world wide for its single monolithic excavation i.e. the Great Kailasa Cave (Cave 16).
The temple premise doesn’t have any lodging facilities but a good number of hotels and lodges are available in Aurangabad which is the nearest destination to the historical site. |
